KHLONG WAT PHRA NON (คลองวัดพระนอน)
Text & maps by Tricky Vandenberg - May 2017
Khlong Wat Phra Non or the Canal of the Monastery of the Reclining Buddha is situated off the city island in the southeastern area of Ayutthaya
in Khlong Suan Phlu Sub-district. The canal is the eastern arm of
Khlong Mae Bia and connects with the extension of Khlong Dusit, passing on the
west side of
Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon.
The name of the canal was derived from the temple along that waterway called Wat Phra Non.

The canal housed the ancient Buddhist monasteries of Wat Phra Non,
Wat Chumphon and Wat Kradok on its south bank. The canal is visible on
Engelbert Kaempfer's map published in 1727.
