| Khlong Chong Lom is a short canal situated off the city island in the northern area in Hua Ro sub-district. Khlong Chong Lom has been dug in the early 20th century to reduce the whirlpools near Wat Tong Pu and the Chantra Kasem Palace created by the erosive forces of the (new) Lopburi River and the Pa Sak River which were joining near Wat Tong Pu and confluencing with Khlong Hua Ro (sometimes called the Pho Sam Ton River) in front of the Chantra Kasem Palace. The "khlong lat" or short cut canal separated Wat Chong Lom and its immediate vicinities from the eastern mainland (present Ko Loi) and created a small islet, called after its monastery, Ko Chong Lom (Chong Lom Island). [1] After the digging of the short cut, Phraya Boran Rachathanin wrote that not only the whirlpools near Wat Tong Pu and the Front Palace reduced, but that also the whirlpools near Wat Nang Kham (mouth of Khlong Sai), near the mouth of Khlong Khao San across of Wat Suwan, and near Wat Phanan Choeng, for a reason unknown, diminished in strength.
