The Northern Area is bounded north by the Ayutthaya city district boundary (a borderline from the Thung Makham Yong intersection to, but not including, Wat Phai Somnarin), to the east by the Lopburi River, to the south by Khlong Mueang and to the west by the Chao Phraya River.
A mix of historical sites, residential areas, and natural landscapes characterises the area north of Ayutthaya within the Ayutthaya City District.
Several fields characterise the area, being Thung Makham Yong, Thung Phukhao Thong, Thung Lum Phli, Thung Khwan, Thung Kaeo, Thung Pho Sam Ton and the Phaniat area. All these fields are related to former battle sites.
The Northern Area contains a total of 105 temple sites.
