WAT PHLAI CHUMPHON

Wat Phlai Chumphon, or the Monastery of the Concentration of Elephants, was located outside the city island in the eastern area of Ayutthaya in the Phai Ling Sub-district. The monastery stood on the east bank of Khlong Ayothya.

There are no visible traces remaining of this monastery at ground level. (1)

The site was located adjacent to Wat Sing Narai and more or less opposite Wat Ayothya.

The monastery was separated from Wat Sing Narai by a small canal splitting off from Khlong Ayothya and linking with Khlong Maheyong.

At present there is the Ayutthaya Provincial Juvenile Center in situ.

Its historical background and period of construction are unknown.

The temple is only mentioned on a 1993 CE Fine Arts Department map.

Wat Phlai Chumphon must have been located in approximative geographical coordinates: 14° 22' 4.71" N, 100° 35' 28.10" E.
