WAT SAKAE (2)

Wat Sakae, or the Monastery of the Takeo Bushwillow (1), is a brick mound located off the city island in the northern area of Ayutthaya, in the Ban Ko Sub-district.

The ruin of the monastery is at the confluence of the (new) Lopburi River and the (new) Pa Sak River, opposite Wat Chong Lom Island and east of Wat Tong Pu.

The site is on the premises of the present Wat Tong Pu school.

In situ remains only some brickwork, probably from the old ordination hall, enveloped in a tree and some broken parts of Buddha statues.

The monastery features on a 1993 CE Fine Arts Department map but is not denominated.

Historical data about the monastery and its construction are unknown.

Wat Sakae was in geographical coordinates: 14° 22' 23.42" N, 100° 34' 42.75" E.
